The Pro Football Hall of Fame has a long tradition of inducting players with great stories to tell. But this year, the Hall is asking speakers for the upcoming class to stick to six minutes or less.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame wants induction speeches for upcoming classes limited to 6 minutes is a story about the Pro Football Hall of Fame. They want that future inductees will have their speeches limited to six minutes.
Brett Favre delivered one of the most remarkable Pro Football Hall of Fame induction speeches in 2016, lasting 36 minutes, which was surpassed by Tony Gonzalez’s 39-minute speech in 2019.
Nobody will challenge those records next month in Canton, Ohio, when the classes of 2020 and 2021 are inducted.
The 19 members of the combined classes who will give enshrinement addresses have been advised to keep their talks to six minutes. If required, an Academy Awards-style musical cue will be used to conclude each speech at 8 minutes.
“So, they’re saying there’ll be a blinking light at six minutes, maybe a small bell going off at seven minutes, and then at eight minutes, someone’s going to come up and lead the applause to conclude the speech,” Peyton Manning, a member of the Class of 2021, said.
To come up with top-10 rankings for 2021, Jeremy Fowler surveyed a group of more than 50 coaches, executives, scouts, and players.

Manning said, “I’m looking forward to watching them walk up and lead the applause while Alan Faneca is still speaking.” “You’ll have a hard time pulling him off the stage. Anyone who is an offensive lineman, for example, is likely to be difficult to pull.”
“Everyone wanting to honor that [and] to be courteous of the person behind you and have everyone have their moment,” Manning said the inductees communicated through group text.
Due to the epidemic, the Centennial Class was not inducted last year, thus this weekend will see the greatest number of honorees in the Hall of Fame’s history, necessitating strict time restrictions on remarks.
“I’ve heard it’s been a big deal in the past,” Manning said, “but I don’t believe it’s been emphasized very effectively.”
Actually, it was adhered to.

On the night of Saturday, Aug. 7, when the Centennial Class of 2020 is recognized, Harold Carmichael will give the opening address. Drew Pearson, whose career spanned 11 seasons and included 11 seasons with Carmichael, will provide the keynote address the following night when the Class of 2021 is inducted.
The Class of 2020 delivers a dozen addresses, with Bill Cowher closing things off on the first night.
Video tributes for the eight members of the class chosen posthumously, each of whom was enshrined at a special ceremony on April 28 in Canton, were interspersed with the 12 live remarks on Saturday.
Pearson will lead the seven members of the Class of 2021 in giving their enshrinement addresses on Sunday, Aug. 8. Last up is Charles Woodson, who will be followed by a video tribute to former Steelers scout Bill Nunn, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in April.
“I’m right there at 7 minutes and 50 seconds as we speak,” Manning remarked, adding that he’s putting the final touches on his speech.
“Unfortunately, there isn’t enough time to thank everyone,” remarked Manning. “The good news is that I’ve had the opportunity to thank individuals personally over the last five years, whether via a handwritten letter, a phone call, or in person. So, even though I won’t be able to say them all in my speech, the thank-yous are still as sincere as they were then.”
